The suspect was also injured in the rollover crash; the extent of his injuries was not immediately known.A 16-year-old boy was fatally struck, while a 16-year-old girl was in critical condition, Barrios said. By Clare Duffy | CNNFacebook users who had an active account at any point between May 2007 and December 2022 can now apply to receive a piece of parent company Meta’s $725 million settlement related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.Meta in December agreed to the payment to settle a longstanding class action lawsuit accusing it of allowing Cambridge Analytica and other third parties to access private user information and misleading users about its privacy practices. The legal battle began four years ago, following an international outcry from the company’s disclosure that the private information of as many as 87 million Facebook users was obtained by Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics firm that worked with the Trump campaign. The California judge overseeing the case granted preliminary approval of the settlement late last month, and Facebook users can now apply for a cash payment as part of a settlement. The claim form — which requires a few personal details and informa...How renters will be protected when Oakland’s eviction ban ends in July

OAKLAND — Property owners can once again kick out tenants for failure to pay rent starting July 15, a hard-fought compromise end date to the city’s COVID-era ban on evictions.Just before midnight Tuesday, the council voted 6-1 to sunset the pandemic-era policy, though, crucially, it added permanent “just cause” protections to keep tenants from being evicted in droves this summer on flimsy pretenses.Nikki Fortunato Bas, the council’s president and author of the legislation, said she hoped it would meet “our broader goals of housing stability, of homelessness prevention and certainty about the end of the moratorium.”Tenants will not owe “back rent” for what went unpaid in the time since the eviction moratorium first took effect in March 2020, so long as they can demonstrate financial losses due to COVID. And landlords can’t remove a tenant who owes less than a month of what’s considered fair rent for an equivalent unit ...El aumento del nivel del mar puede haber obligado a los vikingos a abandonar un asentamiento exitoso

DETROIT (AP) — Tesla dropped the starting prices for its two top-selling models overnight, the company’s fourth price cut in the U.S. this year. The company lopped $3,000, or about 6%, off the starting prices for all three versions of the Model Y small SUV, Tesla’s top-seller. It also cut $2,000, or about 5%, from the starting price of a version of the Model 3 small sedan.Tesla could have cut the Model 3 prices to make more cars loaded with options eligible for the U.S. government’s $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit. With options, some Model 3s would exceed the government’s $55,000 price limit for cars to be eligible for the credit. But some industry analysts say demand may be slowing for the company’s vehicles as more competition enters the market. Others say Tesla is using its high profit margins to take market share from competitors. Before the opening bell Wednesday, shares of Tesla Inc. slid more than 3%. After major declines last year, the company&...What has happened since Suzanne Morphew disappeared in 2020?

(CNN) — A NASA satellite that observed solar flares and helped scientists understand the sun’s powerful bursts of energy will fall to Earth this week, almost 21 years after it was launched. The retired Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) spacecraft, which launched in 2002 and was decommissioned in 2018, is expected to reenter Earth’s atmosphere Wednesday at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET, according to NASA.The agency expects most of the 660-pound spacecraft to burn up as it travels through the atmosphere, but some components are expected to survive reentry. The risk of harm coming to anyone on Earth as a result of RHESSI’s return is low — approximately 1 in 2,467, according to NASA.The spacecraft was equipped with an imaging spectrometer, which recorded the sun’s X-rays and gamma rays. From its former perch in low-Earth orbit, the satellite captured images of high-energy electrons that carry a large part of the energy released in so...Latest news
